Residents of over 14 years
ago will recognize the resurrection of the Shark Bay Herald. The answer to
the question of why is threefold and the reasons pretty much the same as the
last time it was felt necessary to have an alternative voice to the Shires
official publication.
What is perceived as an inaccurate reporting of facts by the Shire; and the
need for the old fashioned, wholesome concept of an alternative view.
Would-be readers and advertisers of this monthly newspaper may be interested
to know the following.
Although there will be some unavoidable flak aimed at the Council in the
first couple of editions, which is hardly surprising after their betrayal of
the Community over the Quays issue, it is not the intention of this paper to
maintain an anti-Council tirade. Be it the intervention by the Minister for
Local Government, the repercussions from our Member of Parliament going in
to bat for us or the break-up of the Ward system and next two Local
Government elections, the overwhelming vote of no confidence in our Council
will work it course. This paper will exercise an editorial policy that will
also be seen as a type of censorship in as much as there will be. (1) No
crass, profane or mindless rubbish.(2.) No politically correct Government
publications that cost the taxpayer a heap to print and do not get read much. (3.) A real attempt to maintain a high
standard of responsible, indepth and mature journalism. With respect to this
last point, it is hard to apply such standards to comments and letters to
the editor without becoming overly censorious and we hereby state a
disclaimer for the opinions and expressions expressed therein, which do
not necessarily reflect the views of the Editor. |
